Programming in Python using the Geneany IDEThe Department for Education and Ofqual have started consultations on the proposed changes to the content and structure of GCSEs to be taken by students in England. The new GCSEs taught in schools from September 2015 include a significant amount of programming. It has also been announced that there is to be a change to the name of the subject from 'ICT’ to ‘Computing’. Computing is a much broader term than ‘Computer Science’ and includes topics such as Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology. Companies such as Microsoft and Google and Cambridge University are already working with technology education organisations, such as the British Computer Society, to produce free materials for schools. Press release

Part of this change is use two or more programming languages, at least one of which is textual, to solve a
variety of computational problems; make appropriate use of data structures [for example, lists, tables or arrays]; design and develop modular programs that use procedures or functions. The students will also undertake creative projects that involve selecting, using, andHardware and software together using Lego Mindstorms.combining multiple applications, preferably across a range of devices, to achieve challenging goals, including collecting and analysing data and meeting the needs of known users. The students need to understand the hardware and software components that make up computer systems,
and how they communicate with one another and with other systems They also need tp understand how instructions are stored and executed within a computer system; and to understand how data of various types (including text, sounds and pictures) can be represented and manipulated digitally, in the form of binary digits This will give many schools a serious problem trying to find good programming teachers. Having worked in and around a computer department for 30 years teaching programming languages such as COBOL, C, BASIC, VB, Java, and Python as well as some of the scripting languages such as Perl and PHP, I am qualified to help. Not only have I taught programming but I have worked in the industry as well developing programs.

We use PC's with Windows and Linux and also Raspberry Pi's to develop the skills in hardware and software. Learn Python

We spend time looking at the areas of student weakness and turn these into strengths. In schools the students must move onto the next topic, we can concentrate on any topics that the student is unsure of, strengthening those areas in which the student is weak. We try to make well rounded individuals who are confident in their own ability in the subject. From this confidence come excellent grades and solid more onto A Levels and a sure foundation for further work at University.
